Poor New Zealand Undone by Indian Spin

New Zealand succumbed to their fourth Test match defeat within just over a month as Ravichandran Ashwin and Pragyan Ojha span India to an emphatic 2-0 victory.

Ashwin and Ojha took 31 wickets between them in the two-match series, with the Black Caps constantly at sea against the pair’s trickery.  This was especially the case in the opening match as New Zealand fell twice for under 200, setting up a huge innings-and-115-runs victory for the hosts.  Ross Taylor’s century in the 2nd Test formed part of a stronger performance by his side, though they eventually fell to a 5-wicket loss.

India will be heartily pleased with a clinical effort over a touring side that they would have expected to beat.  As well as the wicket-hungry spinners, young batsmen Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara impressed, although talk of when or whether Sachin Tendulkar should retire still continues to hound the team.

India’s retention of the series trophy keeps them in 4th place in the League, while New Zealand remain second from bottom.
