England Hot Favourites for Wisden Trophy

After a largely disappointing winter in the Subcontinent, England return to home soil for a series that they will be keenly expecting to win.  The three-match contest for the Wisden Trophy begins on 17 May with the former League Champions hoping to seal their retention of the series spoils in emphatic fashion.

The touring West Indians will have different ideas, however.  Though Darren Sammy’s men recently lost 2-0 at home to second-placed Australia, they will know that the series result could have been quite different had they taken advantage of presentable opportunities at key moments.  If their talented, but fragile batting line-up can withstand England’s bowlers in home conditions, then they will give their promising bowling unit a chance to put the English under pressure.

Yet the expectation must be that James Anderson, Stuart Broad et al will prove too much for the tourists.  A retention of the Wisden Trophy is essential for England to maintain their chances of retaking the no 1 spot when they take on South Africa later in the summer.  An against-the-odds win for the Windies would see them leapfrog New Zealand into 7th place and show that the rebuilding of this once-great side is perhaps under way.
